The Gen 3 is significantly smaller and lighter than the Gen 2, despite having the same screen size. The bezels are gone. It's also much more powerful and uses the more convenient Pencil 2.

The design is the same, but the M1 model has a Mini-LED display (XDR), which is much better in dark tones. If you watch a lot of movies in the dark, the M1 is better. Otherwise, the 2018 model is still very good.
